Location, Location, Location – Mobile Notaries Cover It All

Accepting an assignment from a signing service can send mobile notaries into the most interesting places.
Many mobile notaries sign up with several signing service platforms in order to keep their schedule as busy as the notary would like. That flexibility really goes a long way for working the hours chosen by the notary. But most often the location is already predetermined and the place usually has some role in the signing transaction. These days, meeting clients not only takes place in homes and offices, but in coffee shops, parks or beachfront parking lots. Whether the notary’s service area is large or small, when mobile notaries show up to meet the client, they can say they’ve seen it all. Not to mention the importance of having the tools to make signings easy for all parties involved. These can include clipboards, folding chairs and tables and heavy duty binder clips. True story – I once used a surfboard to make a signing table!

Every signing appointment is important; no matter the location.

The mobile notary receives a text alert for an available signing on their mobile device and usually the notary will already be familiar with the city or at least zip code involved. There may or may not be a link to a map of the signing location but an experienced notary can usually feel confident of the local area and if they should accept the signing and move forward with getting the signing details. I can’t stress more the importance of mapping out the exact location for the signing appointment, especially in California where there are always new developments and renovations. Do you need to make sure you have scheduled enough commute time? Some clients could be in remote locations or your appointment is in a guard-gated community where the check in line can be quite lengthy. Try your best to hold yourself to a high standard of staying on schedule. The old saying is “early is on-time, just on-time is late and late is not acceptable”. You could be pulling up to a modest home or office but the documents you will be notarizing are of the utmost importance to the client. Maybe the clients are retirees looking to apply for a reverse mortgage on the family home they have lived in for decades? Or maybe your assignment takes you to a cliff top home overlooking the ocean where the clients are singing their $50 million dollar home’s refinancing?

If you travel the same area on a daily basis, make sure the local customer base knows of your service.

The travels of a local or mobile notary can take you through the same parts of your community quite often. A pro tip is to make yourself familiar with what local businesses could use your services and go to introduce yourself. Be on the lookout for financial institutions, healthcare facilities, legal offices and real estate offices. Dropping by with your business cards, flyers and a smile can drum up new notary business. As more and more people work from home, many smaller offices might not have the qualified on-staff & in-office notaries that they used to have. An on-demand notary might just be what that business needs when the situation arises. Always have a stack of business cards available for distribution and make a note in your calendar of where you made a connection. Follow up on those connections and make sure the business has your information for when they need it.
