Filing Fees

  • $50.00 for filing of notary bond and oath of office plus recording fee(GC 8213) (Resol. 23-210).
  • Additionally, recording fees to be paid separately to the Recorder: $13.00 for 1st page of bond, $3.00 for each additional page.

  • Cash.
  • Check or Money Order (payable to Monterey County Clerk).
  • Credit/Debit cards are accepted at the physical counter but are subject to a $2.50 external merchant transaction fee.

Appointment Requirements

Appointments are not required in Monterey County.

Processing is entirely on a walk-in basis. Office Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Daily lunch closure from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

Document and bond recording services end precisely at 4:00 PM. Walk-in applicants must be handled and indexed before 4:00 PM, meaning they should arrive by 3:30 PM at the absolute latest.

Mail Filing Option

Monterey County also offers mail filing. The applicant must take their oath of office before an active Notary Public within Monterey County first. Send a copy of the Secretary of State commission certificate, the original $15,000 bond (fully executed with wet signatures), two completed copies of the Oath of Office (fully executed by the local administering notary), a check or money order for the exact fee ($50.00 assuming a 1-page standard bond), and a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Monterey County Clerk, P.O.
